Self-Quarantine: A time to declutter yourself

While the world is witnessing one of its kind health crises & all of us are bound quarantine and stay indoors to protect us & the ones we love. Let’s make the most of this time, sit on our couch and take the best care possible of ourselves. Keep your anxious thoughts at bay, & make room for meditation in your routine. Being self- isolated from practicing social distancing comes with opportunities for self-care that can be calming and rejuvenating. 

Most of us are crazy busy with our stressful jobs or are too consumed with technology to make time for ourselves. Me-time is usually last on the agenda. Worse, we can sometimes feel guilty about taking the time required to take care of ourselves. 

So, in this time of social distancing &  during the time of COVID-19, we can practice self-care and make it a part of our lives! Let’s begin and learn how we can turn this time into Self-care Self-Quarantine time:

Declutter your Headspace

Do you feel like your brain is in serious overdrive? Is a stream of clutter slowly turning your mental space into a chaotic mess? We would assume your answer is Yes! most importantly during this time of the pandemic. You have now got enough self-time where you can calm your mind down and free up some headspace. Start meditating and give your mind some peacefulness and rest.

Embrace a hobby

Do you have any long lost hobbies? Which you wanted to embrace for a long time, but due to the daily hustle, you were unable to? It’s time now! Partake in a hobby that you do just for fun: don’t be tempted to show it off on Instagram or turn it into a side-hustle. It can be anything which you have to do indoor. It can be embroidering, painting, crocheting or anything which you love. Self-quarantine will let you do it all!

Learn something new

One of the best ways to leverage your spare time during this epidemic is to learn a new skill through an online platform. It can be anything, You can learn a new language, start writing a blog, learn any musical instrument through Youtube, or you can work on your designing skills as well. Discover the inner you, any unknown interest or talent and try to learn yourself- The hidden YOU!

Emotional Self-Care

Emotional Self-care is about becoming more in tune with your emotions. It’s about checking in with yourself, becoming more mindful of your triggers, and thinking patterns and finding ways to work through them, rather than bottling them up inside you. Some activities which you can do during this outbreak are journaling, being creative through painting, writing, or cooking. You have ample opportunity to work on your long lost hobby. Be Creative!

Grow our Mother Nature

Just like our cabinets and cupboards, our minds too need tidying up from time to time. Getting rid of all that non-essential mental baggage is crucial to stay focused, motivated and productive. This is where gardening comes in! Indulge in Gardening and take part in growing our mother nature. However, if you learn how to grow your flowers, herbs, vegetables, and fruits, you can eat food straight from your garden. It is the healthiest way to get the nutrients that your body needs to fight this pandemic if infected!

Invest in healthy reading

During this time, you can inculcate the habit of reading into your daily life. Get in the habit of reading articles, blurbs, drafts, books, and volumes of material that are all worthy of your time. Alternatively, read Fiction and then Non-fiction books, to let that spark of reading remain in place. You can also listen to audiobook versions as it increases the coziness factor. 

Sweat all that out!

We all know exercise is good for us, then why not do it now? Daily exercise can help you both physically and mentally, boosting your mood and reducing stress and anxiety, not to mention helping you shed extra weight. 

Home exercise is so popular these days. There is an entire universe of free yoga classes on YouTube, and some instructors are live-streaming their classes from home. As you are in quarantine, do not go for a walk or run outside. Try to eat healthy, well-balanced meals, exercise regularly and get plenty of sleep. Avoid alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs. 

All of us are trying to stay put to adhere to the tenets of social distancing, a public health measure that has been proven to reduce the spread of the virus. Let’s vouch to stay in our home to help in controlling this pandemic and help our mother nature to bloom again!

  1. It’s been proven that a regular meditation practice lowers stress, and walking meditation is a powerful tool for self-care. The practice of noticing how you walk, where you walk, the pace at which you walk, and how your foot touches then leaves the ground, is a way to be present to yourself in real time. Focusing on being in the moment with yourself is a way to declutter the mind and connect you to stillness. The conflicting actions of practicing inner stillness while outwardly moving are helpful in training yourself to be mentally still regardless of what happens.
